Canadian PM Justin Trudeau on Tuesday has called the hit-and-run deaths of a Muslim family a “terrorist attack” and vowed to combat “Islamophobia.”

Canadian PM also has promised to redouble efforts to fight far-right groups two days after a hate-motivated attack that killed four members of a Muslim family in the city of London, Ontario.

London, a city of about 400,000 people located halfway between Detroit and Toronto, has a large Muslim community and at least three mosques.

Trudeau said in the House of Commons after observing a moment of silence, “This was a terrorist attack, motivated by hatred, in the heart of one of our communities.”

The Muslim family was killed on Sunday.  A pickup truck jumped the curb and ran them over and was targeted because of their religion, Canadian police said. The victims were three generations of a family and ranged in age from 15 to 74. A 9-year-old boy who survived remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have charged a 20-year-old man with four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder after he allegedly carried out a targeted hit-and-run, striking a family of five “because of their Muslim faith” in a “premeditated” act.

The family who died were consisting of Salman Afzaal, 46; his wife, Madiha Salman, 44; their 15-year-old daughter, Yumnah Afzaal; and Afzaal’s 74-year-old mother.
