The Shires have rapidly developed a reputation for giving value for money and anyone who attended their concert at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall won’t have been disappointed.
The tone for the evening was set by rising Australian born, Nashville based singer/songwriter, Sinead Burgess, whose powerful and meaningful songs, coupled with her engaging persona, touched a chord with many. English New Country artist, Andy Brown, was next to perform and he also won the audience over with a mixture of original material and covers. One notable aspect of said audience was the amazing age range, from small children to senior citizens, all enthusiastically lapping up the atmosphere of the occasion.
The arrival of Ben and Chrissie, plus their highly talented band, was greeted with a standing ovation and for the rest of the evening, we were encouraged to remain on our feet and dance for the uptempo numbers, while taking our seats for the more quiet and reflective material.
The whole set was an excellent balance of both and the evening ended with an encore of not one or two, but three songs. Mention must be made of the quality of the lighting, which certainly added to the enjoyment of the performance.
All in all, it is easy to see why The Shires have achieved such an amazing level of success in a relatively short space of time and more of this is surely just around the corner.
