The European Interest in Russia-Ukraine War

Tariq Ali, a renowned historian, addresses critically the refugee issue post-Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The number suggests that people more than 4.5 million have successfully fled since the start of the war.

Ali also addresses the contrast between the condition of refugees of Ukraine and non-Europeans that in different Western-fuelled wars on other continents refugees are not even allowed to cross the borders. Europe is maintaining a double standard as far as the non-European refugees are concerned.

The Choices

Putin has limited choices: either to keep the war alive or to propose a negotiation. These two options are also open for Ukraine as well. Anything other than immediate negotiation sounds wrong to Ali.

Political Interest

Boris Johnson’s recent visit to Kyiv does not give any positive signs because everyone seems to have their own agendas around the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The experts are saying that Johnson’s trip would mainly encourage Ukraine to continue, as well as escalate the war.

The war between Russia and Ukraine is no longer a war between two countries. Different parties are already involved in the process of making people suffer for the sake of politics. Because of Russia’s involvement in the war, NATO is already there in Ukraine. And Boris Johnson’s visit proves that for all of us.

Sandwiched People

In the middle of all these politically and economically motivated parties, the people are dying, suffering, and becoming refugees. Home and hope are being destroyed every day. The question is: what do the people of Ukraine want? War or Peace? I believe people want peace and do not want the war to continue.

The way European leaders and people are concerned about Ukraine, are they similarly concerned about others? Think of Yemen, Iraq, Palestine, and Afghanistan: European countries are/were, directly and indirectly, involved in those wars. People suffered and still suffering there, but political leaders like Boris Johnson never visited them to support them.
