Sydney is the home to two most extravagant Bengali festivals in all of Australia. Every year in the month of April two Boisakhi Mela’s are hosted to celebrate the Bengali New Year.
Tempe Reserve in the city’s Inner West is the home to a free Boisakhi Mela arranged annually by Bangabandhu Porishad Sydney.
This is a family friendly social and cultural event, presenting talk, recitals, music and dance performance among other entertainments. The availability of a variety of Bengali food and shopping is another major attraction of this event which draws more people to it every year.
The event celebrated as a fair, which attracts a multicultural crowd with locals from the neighbourhood, reknowed media personlities and politicians, and a large amount of Bengali migrants living in Australia. The popularity of the event now also draws foreign visitors who travel to be a part of the extravagance.
The event will run from 10AM – 10PM on the day. While the event is free, guests can prebook parking tickets at www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=361162 . There are no casual parking available at the event. The organizers are providing free shuttles from Tempe, Wolli Creek and Sydenham.
