Taylor Swift is leaving her lifelong record label the Big Machine Label Group after signing a global recording agreement with UMG to create the new deal with Republic Records and UMG and also fit up her label partner in the US.
The multi-album agreement, effective immediately, deepens the relationship between Swift and UMG and builds upon the success she achieved with Big Machine. Swift’s all the previous albums, recordings with Big Machine is distributed by UMG, ended earlier this month.
The details of the deal is not public yet but being a part of the contract Swift asked that any sale of their spotify shares resulted in a distribution of money to their artists, non-recoupable.
“I’m ecstatic to announce that my musical home will be Republic Records and Universal Music Group. It’s also incredibly exciting to know that I’ll own all of my master recordings that I make from now on,” said Swift in a post.
“I feel so motivated by new opportunities created by the streaming world and the ever-changing landscape of our industry… I also feel strongly that streaming was founded on and continues to thrive based on the magic created by artists, writers, and producers.”
“The agreement was not radical, there is no doubt that artists undoubtedly are non-recoverable,” The music attorney Gregor Pryor of Reed Smith said.
Swift also made it clear that she will own the master recordings of any music she produces from now on a lucrative detail that is supposed to have been a puzzle in her relationship with BMLG, which owns the masters for the first six albums of Swift.
