Stranger Things' Season 3 Teaser Reveals New Setting

Netflix has shared a teaser for the highly anticipated third season of Stranger Things. A short video in the official Twitter account reveals an important new location in the town of Hawkins, Indiana: the Starcourt Mall. The teaser is totally ’80s, highlighting storefronts like Sam Goody, Waldenbooks, and The Gap as well as a food court that’s just “an escalator ride away.”
The commercial-style footage notes that the mall opens in 1985, leading us to believe that the upcoming season takes place one year after the events from season two. And while the visual doesn’t provide much footage from season three, we do see Steve and newcomer Robin, played by Maya Hawke, working at Scoops Ahoy Ice Cream Parlor in the mall.
Hawke’s character is described as an alternative girl who is equal parts sharp and playful. Bored with her mundane day job, she just wants a little excitement in her life and gets more than she bargained for when she uncovers a dark secret in Hawkins. Hawke joins as a new series regular in Season 3, in which Lucas’ (Caleb McLaughlin) strong-willed little sister returns, only this time with an army of friends.
The clip closes with three words: “Coming next summer!” It’s not just a reference to the summer setting, but also a clear indication that Stranger Things is not scheduled to return until summer 2019.
Stranger Things will as well release a new book exploring Eleven’s backstory and a comic telling what happened to Will inside the Upside Down.
The series had 12 Emmy Award nominations, including its second bid for best drama series and supporting acting noms for stars David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown.
