Sports Relief Day 2018: Helping the Less Fortunate

Comic Relief, the great minds behind Red Nose Day, are currently in the midst of their newest fundraising event, Sports Relief Day.
Created in 2002, Sports Relief’s mission is to raise money for less fortunate UK citizens in addition to providing aid to some of the world’s poorest countries through sporting and entertainment events. They also encourage everyone to get involved by participating in their National Billion Steps Challenge. To get involved, all you have to do is download the Sports Relief App, and start walking! Create teams, participate in celebrity challenges, all while donating to a worthy cause.
As Sports Relief supports similar causes to Red Nose Day, Comic Relief decided to make Sports Relief Day a biennial event, alternating with Red Nose Day to take place every other year. As a result of the 2016 Sports Relief efforts, the campaign was able to raise enough money to help 50K people in the UK dealing with mental health issues, provide anti-malaria medication to 900K people in Africa, and help 3.4 million people in Africa through maternal, neonatal, and child health funding.
Today, 23 March, marks the last official day of the 2018 Sports Relief event, however the good news is that it’s never too late to get involved and donate! Download the Sports Relief app and start getting your steps in, get your friends involved, do celebrity challenges and more!
You can also head over to Sainsbury’s, where they’re selling Sports Relief merchandise, including t-shirts, wristbands, and more to support the cause.
Lastly, you can go to sportrelief.com to donate and to find out more about this years efforts, including everything from special events to how the money being raised will be used to help those in need.
Don’t forget to catch Sports Relief specials, including a John Bishop Sketch and celebrity boxing matches, tonight on BBC One.
