Serj Tankian Responds to Viral ‘System Of A Down’ Clip From Nigerian Wedding

After a clip of Nigerian wedding guests dancing to the 2001 System Of A Down track ‘Toxicity’ went viral this weekend, the bands’ frontman Serj Tankian has now responded with joy. Tara Pilkington reports.

Following weeks of harrowing news stories regarding Black lives, it was incredibly powerful to this weekend see a clip which celebrated Black joy.

The short clip features, which you can see below, shows wedding guests headbanging and singing along to the popular System Of A Down track:

This clip has since caught the attention of both Tankian, who on Twitter described the footage as: “simply awesome”, and Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello who said: “There’s Hope!!”

The California band have not released a full-length album since the 2005 albums ‘Mesmerize’ and ‘Hypnotize’.
