Saturday Special: In conversation with the pop-punk superstar GIRLI

GIRLI has been releasing music for years, and her unique take on pop-punk music along with her unique and feminist lyrics has amassed her a dedicated core fan base. Ollie Leitelmayer caught up with GIRLI herself, to talk about all things music.

Firstly, how are you doing amongst all this craziness in the world at the moment?

Everything feels very uncertain, and it definitely scares me the thought of not being able to tour or travel properly with my music for years. But I’m lucky and grateful for what I do have, which is more than a lot of people. I think coronavirus has made me appreciate the little things in life a lot more.

How has the pandemic affected your music/touring plans for this year and the future?

I had to cancel two tours, and it’s basically put on hold any live show plans for the foreseeable future, but luckily we’re in the digital age so my music release plans haven’t been affected as much! I’m still making music, creating videos and connecting with my fans through social media. My next music release is actually planned for next month…

For anyone that hasn’t heard your music before, how would you describe it?

Weird pop meets punk meets… a girl who tells you way too much about her life when you’ve never even met her.

Tell me about your new collaboration with Rizha, how did that come about & what inspired the song?

Me and Rizha met over instagram in 2019 and I went to Madrid to make a song with her and hang out. We wrote Live The Weekend the first day we met because we were talking about how annoying it is that people question our bisexuality all the time and thought “ Hey, why don’t we make a song about this?”

Who’s your dream collaborator?

Tove Lo. She is a living legend and my favourite pop star.

Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years?

Who f**king knows!
