Road Safety Protest in Parts of Dhaka

Students blocked the main roads of Dhaka City and broke public transport as a protest of the death of three college students by reckless bus driving in an incident which happened on Sunday afternoon.
On Sunday, a private bus ploughed into a group of college students waiting for transport on the Airport Road, killing two on the spot and injuring several others.
The protest is being held by surrounding school students of Dhaka; the students are spotted in uniform, checking the licenses of bus drivers, police, government employees and many more, demanding justice for their fallen fellows.
With the slogan “We want Justice”, holding placards, banners, the school students in uniform are blocking the road demanding to fulfill nine demands where the road safety is the major issue.
Their other demands included  an apology from the shipping minister for his comments, footbridges at places where students cross streets, and speed-breakers at places prone to accident.
The students assumed the role of traffic police, checking documents of almost all modes of transports in presence of police, help needy people, letting pass ambulance and giving space to emergency cars.
A number of educational institutions in the capital were closed yesterday. The fourth day of the protest shook the whole Dhaka City as 70 vehicles were vandalised during the protest at Shanir Akhra, Mirpur and Uttara, according to witnesses and correspondents.
“Students have legitimate demands but the way they’re blocking the roads will bring more sufferings to the people,” said a worker who was stuck on the street.
Whilst the PM Hasina warned “third party” could sabotage the protest for their own ends. “That’s why I request all guardians and parents to keep their children at home.”
