Rita Ora & Cardi B Share a Kiss in Her Controversial Video ‘Girls’

Rita Ora has released the lush video for her controversial single “Girls” earlier this month where Rita is being criticized for kissing Cardi B.
The pop stars new single also features Cardi B, Bebe Rexha, and Charli XCX where LGBTQ artists and fans criticized Ora and the track’s featured artists.
In an interview, XCX defended the song and apologized for offending members of the LGBTQ+ community, noting the conversations she had with many of the artists who shared public critiques of the lyrics.
Following the release of “Girls,” openly lesbian, bisexual and queer female artists like Kehlani and Hayley Kiyoko took to social media to call out what they perceived to be offensive, exploitative lyrics as they noted that the song is built upon male gaze-y stereotypes of sexual intimacy between two women.
The visual features shots of Ora in what appears to be an all-women sanctuary, juxtaposed with clips of XCX in a forest and Rexha in a mirrored room. Cardi later appears in the visual as a large hologram that Ora proceeds to admire. While rapping her verse, the two come together to share a kiss.
“‘Girls’ was written to represent my truth, and is an accurate account of a very real and honest experience in my life”, said Rita following the controversy of the song.
“We never try to cause harm or had bad intentions with the song. I personally myself had experiences with other woman, shiieeett with a lot of woman! I thought the song was a good song, and I remember my experience”, said Cardi B in response.
