Review: Cosy Club Christmas Dinner, Birmingham

Standing proudly on Bennett’s Hill is Birmingham Cosy Club. Built in 1830, this Corinthian-styled masterpiece was originally the headquarters for the Birmingham Banking Company. In 1914, the building was taken over by the Midland Bank. Now of course, it’s our much-loved Birmingham Cosy Club.
This year the WhatsOn team merrily gathered together for a delicious three course meal for Christmas at The Cosy Club – they are offering an incredible deal of 3 courses for £28.95 from 21st Nov-24th Dec! We were seated graciously with gold glistening Christmas crackers and scratch cards with little treats and surprises for all of us to enjoy.
Our evening began with an array of cocktails, mocktails, gins and spirits available on the menu. With no dry glasses, sharing platters for starters were placed across the table ready for us to indulge.

First up was the Baked Camembert and slow cooked pulled beef brisket – a favourite across the WhatsOn team which went down a treat! The toasted ciabatta and spiced apple and date chutney was mouth watering and certainly one to try for starters. With something for everyone, the starters also included festive flatbread and roast spiced beetroot. The mini gloucester old spot sausages disappeared within seconds and I think it’s fair to say that the smoked salmon fishcakes were a great little addition to this spread. Starters shared, plates cleaned and drinks flowing, the WhatsOn team move on to mains….

The majority of the WhatsOn team opted for the Norfolk turkey and smoked bacon pie – a slight twist to the usual Christmas turkey roast dinner. With pigs in blankets, creamy mash, roasted carrots, parsnips and sprouts in a sage & chestnut butter with gravy, this was certainly a favourite for Christmas mains.
A few of us tried the slow-roasted pork belly with chestnut & herb sausage stuffing, dauphinoise potatoes and braised red cabbage with red wine gravy. The Confit duck leg was also on the menu this year and as described it was cooked to perfection!

With a few vegans and vegetarians in the crowd, a popular choice was the West Country cheddar and leek pie with creamy mash, roasted carrots, parsnips and sprouts in a sage & chestnut butter with gravy. All food was served piping hot and tasted delicious. Very well done Cosy Club on delivering exceptional mains for us this Christmas!
To finish off, here come the puddings! Traditional Christmas pudding with brandy sauce wasn’t the only option available on the menu this year. A fair amount of the WhatsOn team chose the chocolate & cinder toffee cheesecake while others opted for the Pimm’s and strawberry trifle. Both looked and tasted gorgeous. A great way to end the evening with beautiful looking desserts and taste tingling treats!

For those who love a little palette cleanser and lovers of cheese, you can also try out the English cheese selection – comprising Vintage cheddar, Shropshire blue and creamy brie with oatcakes and spiced apple & date chutney.
All in all the night was a success! The WhatsOn team thoroughly enjoyed all the food and drinks served throughout the evening and have no hesitation in coming back again for more. We recommend The Cosy Club with full confidence and satisfaction, so get yourselves down there and try it all out for yourselves. For a joyful celebration, relaxed dining, drinking and lounging, The Cosy Club is the place to be this Christmas!
