Review – Chris Rock’s ‘Total Blackout’ Tour

Chris Rock is truly a monster of a talent. He’s a screenwriter, cartoon Zebra, host of the infamous ‘Lillie White,’ Oscars and, of course, the role he is probably most defined by, a stand-up comedian.
His brand of humour is at times tear-jerkingly hilarious, stating that George W Bush was actually a black revolutionary – like Malcolm X and Rosa Parks – as his presidency was so bad that it led to white people finally giving the black people the chance for a president. He went on to say Trump will leave opening the way for Jesus to return as the next president.
Whilst in Birmingham he admitted going to Handsworth and being petrified at how scary it was. The audience howled. But Chris Rock is much more than just a gag artist. At times he was painfully honest about the mistakes he made in his sixteen-year marriage, which ended in divorce recently.
He later added that his arrogant attitude and his extra marital affairs were to blame. He then proceeded to share marital advice with the audience. An audience of thousands remained silent through this very personal account of his personal life. Then suddenly he disarmed the audience with accounts of his current rampant sexual exploits.
A story of forgetting just how old he was followed, when he introduced himself to Rihanna at a party. She looked at him as though he was an old aunt, he recollected.
Chris Rock has emerged as one of the most explosive, insightful funny men of all time.
With his sixteen speaker, 30 foot HD screens on either side of the stage and a plethora of large rock concert spotlights, Chris Rock has also become the undisputed comic Rock star of our times.
Touring until 28th January in London.
