Primavera Sound: Spain’s Summer Kickoff in Barcelona

Primavera Sound 2024 kicks off the summer festival season in Europe with a stunning line-up from May 29 to June 2 at Parc del Fòrum, Barcelona. Following Barcelona, the festival moves to Porto from June 6-8 with a condensed line-up. Later in the year, Primavera Sound will also tour South America. Don’t miss this unforgettable music experience in breathtaking locations!

Why is Primavera Sound Barcelona so special?

Since its inception in 2001 as a day festival at Poble Espanyol, Primavera Sound has grown exponentially. Relocating to Barcelona’s Parc del Fòrum in 2005, the festival added a Porto edition in 2012 and expanded to Los Angeles, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and a second Barcelona weekend in 2022.

Despite a rocky start in Madrid last year due to unexpected storms, Primavera Sound continues to thrive. Madrid is absent from the 2024 line-up, replaced by a day event in Montevideo, Uruguay. The Barcelona weekend remains the festival’s highlight, set against the city’s scenic beach promenade. Festival-goers can enjoy music late into the night and spend their days exploring Barcelona’s Mediterranean waters, tapas, and cultural landmarks.

Festival fans in Europe know Primavera Sound for its impressive line-ups, and 2024 is no exception. This year’s three-day festival in Barcelona features top-tier artists like Pulp, Vampire Weekend, and Justice headlining Thursday night. The weekend also boasts headliners Lana Del Rey, The National, Disclosure, SZA, PJ Harvey, Mitski, and Charli XCX.

A special public event before the festival features Phoenix. Indie rock enthusiasts will enjoy Pulp, Vampire Weekend, PJ Harvey, and The National, while pop fans have Lana Del Rey, SZA, Mitski, and Charli XCX. The line-up also includes queer artists Troye Sivan, Ethel Cain, Mannequin Pussy, and Romy, alongside heavier sounds from Deftones and a special 10-year anniversary performance by Freddie Gibbs & Madlib of their album Piñata.

What’s next for summer festivals?

Primavera Sound kicks off a vibrant summer of music festivals in Europe. Just a day after the Barcelona event begins, France’s unique Les Nuits de Fourvière in Lyon starts on May 30, running until July 25 at the stunning Roman amphitheatre on Fourvière hill. This year’s line-up features PJ Harvey, LCD Soundsystem, Cat Power, AIR, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, and Patti Smith, among others. The festival also includes the Australian circus show “The Pulse” and Christiane Jatahy’s gender-switched “Hamlet.”

June sees the festival season in full swing with the Netherlands’ Best Kept Secret, Belgium’s Rock Werchter, and the UK’s iconic Glastonbury Festival. In Spain, Barcelona’s Sónar Festival (June 13-15) highlights electronic and hip-hop acts like Air, Jessie Ware, Vince Staples, and Kaytranada.

July brings Madrid’s Mad Cool Festival (July 10-13) with Dua Lipa, Pearl Jam, and The Killers, followed by Bilbao’s festival (July 11-13) featuring Massive Attack, Grace Jones, and Arcade Fire. Enjoy the ultimate music experience across Europe this summer!
