Pope Francis Addresses Gay Man Saying: 'God Made You Like This'

A survivor of clerical sex abuse has said Pope Francis told him God made him gay and his sexuality “does not matter”.
In a private dialogue, the bishop is understood to have told Juan Carlos Cruz that God loves gay people and it is fine to be homosexual.
“He told me, ‘Juan Carlos, that you are gay does not matter. God made you like this and loves you like this and I don’t care. The pope loves you like this. You have to be happy with who you are,’” Cruz told Spanish newspaper El País.
Cruz was a victim of Chile’s most notorious paedophile priest Fernando Karadima.
Father Karadima, now aged 87, was found guilty of sexual abuse by the Vatican in 2011.
Many people have highlighted that this statement impede the ideas that people choose their sexual orientation or that God hates gay people.
The Pope’s words hint a much more open and inclusive approach by the often restrictive faith. It is a move which will likely upset many conservative Catholics.
The Vatican has neither confirmed nor denied the comments which the Pontiff’s said to Cruz.
It isn’t the first progressive move for Pope Francis. He has spoken up for environmentalism and respecting other religions, while opposing the death penalty and religious oppression. In 2013, Francis even said “Who am I to judge? ” regarding gay priests.
