Parkinson’s Secret Supper 2020

By Shona Carter
You may have seen in the news recently that Midlands Star Ozzy Osbourne has revealed that he has been suffering from Parkinson’s disease. This was such a brave step for the star and his family.
It is said that around 145,000 people are diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in the UK, and more that 1 million people are affected.
Parkinson’s Disease is a degenerative neurological condition that destroys the cells that produce dopamine in the brain, as a result functions of the brain and body can be greatly compromised.
Symptoms of Parkinson’s can include:
> Slowness of Movement
> Tremors
> Muscle Cramps/ Freezing
> Dizziness
> Fatigue
> Anxiety
> Pain
> Restless legs
> Loss of memory
> Low blood pressure
In an attempt to get everyone on board and involved, Gayle Kelly, the Co-ordinator of the Midlands Team, came up with this innovative idea of the initial Secret Supper. This was held last year in the Jewellery Quarter area of Birmingham. The feedback from this sounded amazing. In all honesty I feel gutted for not knowing. I would have definitely attended an event like this!
With massive success and great demand for a return of this fun filled dining experience, Parkinson’s UK are hosting another Secret Supper for the second year running, this Spring in the heart of Birmingham.
Here you will have a chance to be involved in a multi-dining experience to visit 3 different restaurants for 3 different courses.
Order of the Evening
Tuesday 28 April 2020 – 5pm
Colmore Row
5pm > registration and welcome drink at The Lost & Found
6.45pm > travel to first restaurant
All guests will start their triple dining experience with a welcome drink at The Lost & Found. More importantly it will be here when all will be revealed as to which of the restaurants you will be dining in.
You will be put into groups for the night where you will visit your first restaurant for your starter. Your guide will then accompany for your main course and then finally the last course (usually my favourite course of any evening). In case you’re worried all restaurants will be located in the Colmore Row area of Birmingham which means all set locations will be within a 5 minute walking distance. All restaurants will have wheelchair access.
Tickets for this jam-packed evening will be priced at £35. All proceeds will go to Parkinson’s UK which will continue to raise awareness, research and support for people and those affected by this illness.
I had the honour of meeting the Parkinson’s Midlands team – including the brains behind this creative fun dining experience – Gayle Kelly, late last year for the Secret Supper launch evening. I found it a truly humbling experience listening to volunteers with Parkinson’s share their story and also to hear the wonderful work that Parkinson’s UK is doing in order to make a change for those who are dealing with this life changing diagnosis.
I really can’t wait for April’s event. It will be an evening to remember and not to be missed. Hope to see you all there!
