Pari: Not a Fairytale is a 2018 Indian supernatural adult horror film directed by newcomer Prosit Roy which revolves around the concept of ‘Ifrit’, a Middle Eastern mythology staring Anushka Sharma in the lead role.
A beautiful inscrutable woman Rukhsana (Anushka Sharma) is being hunted down by a group of cruel men. Arnab (Parambrata Chatterjee), a boy from Kalkata rescues traumatized Ruksana found under mysterious circumstances in a secluded jungle. With nowhere to go and her life being in danger, he offers her refuge at his home until he discovers a different and mysterious side to her.
Unlike most mainstream horror films in Bollywood, there’s no jarring background score, cliched jump scares, excessive conversation between characters or dramatic ‘possessed by evil spirit’ performances. Releasing in March, the movie made a huge success in box-office and break down the stereotype idea of horror film in Bollywood.
