Taskforces formed by the UK government have been assigned to liaise with unions and public health experts to revive the economy. Tanzia Haq reports.
The UK government has announced that five new taskforces will be in charge of aiding the slow reopening of the economy. These task forces will coordinate with labor groups, unions and others to iron out measures for a safe return to work.
The five areas covered include:
- Pubs and restaurants
- Non-essential shops
- Recreation and leisure
- Places of worship
- International air travel.
Each of these task forces responsible for these sectors are being led by relevant ministers: Alok Sharma will be leading the pubs, restaurants and shops sectors, Oliver Dowden will run the recreation taskforce, Robert Jenrick will be in charge of places of worship and Grant Shapps will be in charge of aviation.
The government intends to smooth the way for these industries so that the economy can return to work quickly. These establishments are currently set to reopen on 4 July.
These measures come after labor groups pertaining to these industries had come forward to say that they would be forced to shutter their doors permanently if the lockdown continues, meaning thousands of workers will also be losing their jobs.
The taskforces will figure out the fastest and safest way to reopen these sectors by consulting with public health experts and respective government bodies.
