Joey, Brianne Tju, Chase Stokes, and Keith Powers have all signed on to star in the sci-fi dystopian film. Netflix premiered the series in 2019. Joey is expected to play Tally Youngblood, the main character in the series.
Uglies is based on the best-selling novel of the same name, which has generated three sequels and three offshoot novels in the Impostors universe. The cinematic adaptation has been a long time coming for fans of the series.
While the film is currently in pre-production, producer John Davis and 20th Century Fox revealed in 2006 that they had purchased the rights to the project, one year after the first novel in the series was published. Though most expected at least the first film to debut in the following years, it never happened. And there were no more updates until Joey’s announcement in 2020.
The excitement, combined with the fact that Joey, Chase, and McG have appeared in some of Netflix’s most popular shows. It has raised expectations for Uglies to new heights — if that’s even possible.
Netflix hasn’t dropped an exact release date just yet, but with casting out of the way, the audience most likely expects the movie to come out in late 2022 or early 2023.
