Netflix's ‘Ghost in the Shell’ Series is Set to Land in 2020

Netflix has announced that it is developing a computer-animated “Ghost in the Shell” series under the titled “Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045” which is set to premiere in 2020.
The animated series will be directed by Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama, who are already working with Netflix on another new series, Ultraman, and will be produced by Production I.G and Sola Digital Arts.
In a tweet on social media last week, Netflix confirmed the news. “YES, A NEW GHOST IN THE SHELL ANIME IS COMING. Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 will be directed by Appleseed’s Shinji Aramaki and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex’s Kenji Kamiyama. On @Netflix in 2020!” the tweet stated.
The series is set in the near future when computer technology has advanced to the point where people can digitize their brains and swap them between different cybernetic bodies. It follows a cyborg police officer who battle corrupt officials, terrorists, and hackers.
While this art seems more like a fan art piece than actual concept art for the series, the prospect of a new Ghost in the Shell anime series will hopefully wash the memories of the Scarlett Johansson atrocity that was last year’s Rupert Sanders movie and will bring new fans into the series with Netflix’s massive platform.
Though “The Ghost in the Shell” has been previously adapted several times before for the big screen, including from its 1995 original and its follow-on 2004 sequel Innocence, this time it is coming on a TV series format.
