Nazrul Jayanti is the birthday of Kazi Nazrul Islam the national poet of Bangladesh. The day is organized and celebrated by various schools, colleges & universities of Bengal, and also celebrated by Bengalis around the world, as a tribute to Nazrul and his works. This year is his 119th birth anniversary. For his unique contribution in literature he is popular both in India and Bangladesh, and being named the National Poet of Bangladesh and remembered and honored fondly in India
He influenced the literary world of Bangladesh with his poetry, music, philosophies and revolutionary views. Nazrul wrote poetry of love and freedom, but also condemned oppression and bigotry through his writings. Large crowds gather together to listen to readings of their works and performances of their music, as well as to watch dances and short plays based on the works created by him.
