Music Monday: Latest Music of this week

Our music editor Adam Humphries brings you the latest music of the week. Make sure to add them to your playlist!

Alice SK – Run Away

UK singer-songwriter Alice SK has released her next single, ‘Run Away’ and it sounds like an absolute gem. Alice’s singing is constantly haunting whilst filled with deep emotional feelings yet remains soft and melodic. The tone of the song is somber and is about dealing with dark, complex emotions of the inner minds of ourselves. Alice’s voice musically is in the same musical veins as Amy Winehouse and Portishead in that she can sing about some that troubles us mentally yet her voice retains a level of warmth and comfort. Very cleverly put together.

Fairport Convention – Shuffle and Go album – winter tour

Indie folk band Fairport Convention have certainly been keeping themselves busy during lockdown and their album, ‘Shuffle and Go’ is the product of that duration. It’s a record that filled with humourous lyrics about humility and everyday life shenanigans. Both Dave Peggy and Simon Nicol both do well as front-men, both really good singers. I openly admit that though I’ve never heard of these guys before their music is somewhat catchy. These guys are currently on their UK tour which will be running from this month straight through to 5th March 2022. Tour dates are below:

Ghosts of Torrez – The Legend of Billy Whale – official video

UK band have released their official music video for their song ‘The Legend of Billy Whale’ and it’s creative and intriguing to say the least. The video itself draws inspiration from the Manga art/cartoon format. Though the song itself is a non-vocal instrumental it does tell quite an interesting story when you watch it closely. The video has a swashbuckler theme to it as it’s about a pirate who swears revenge after suffering a close loss when tragedy strikes.

Ewan Macfarlane – Honey

Our talented Scottish singer, songwriter and musician is once again making his presence felt on the music scene, and this time he is as much looking back as he is looking forward. Not long from the release of his deluxe version of his album, ‘Almost Ever’ his latest song, ‘Honey’ is about looking back on the past, for him that is. From Ewan’s take though, it’s about being in love and loving it so much that you can almost taste it. Considering what the song is about and the title you begin to realise that Ewan’s actually being quite clever there. As always Ewan’s a powerhouse of musical talent who has a way with words and lyrics. Not to mention knowing his way round a guitar. Starting this year Ewan’s on his tour around his native Scotland, tour dates are below:
