Music Industry Plans Blackout in Solidarity With Black Community

Warner, Universal and Dirty Hit are among the labels joining the blackout to show their support to the Black Lives Matter movement following the death of George Floyd. Tara Pilkington reports.

On Tuesday 2 June, a host of record labels and music industry figures are planning a social media blackout in solidarity with the black community.

Here’s what you need to know about the blackout:

  • In messages which have been shared by Warner, Universal, Dirty Hit and more, they have set out a plan to: “disconnect from work and reconnect with our community” for the day, with this being “an urgent step of action to provoke accountability and change.”
  • They have said: “As gatekeepers of the culture, it’s our responsibility to not only come together to celebrate the wins, but also hold each other up during a loss.”
  • They added: “Join us on Tuesday June 2 as a day to disconnect from work and reconnect with our community, #THESHOWMUSTBEPAUSED.”
