Modi’s Inauguration of Ram Mandir is Not Religious!

The inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya by Modi is not solely a religious event. Despite the incomplete construction of the temple, Modi hastily inaugurated the Ram temple on January 22 as the election is approaching. The hasty inauguration itself indicates its dual nature, being not only a religious event but also a political one. Celebrities, politicians, and business tycoons were invited to participate in this significant event. According to critics, the inauguration was mainly to boost Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Modi’s Inauguration: A Political Move for Election Victory

Mr. Modi is assured of a third term and wants a big majority for the BJP. Riding to power and anchoring it on the back of right-wing Hindu nationalism, Modi went beyond just attending events. Secularism in India: Ideals vs. Realities

The Indian Constitution upholds the nation as a secular republic. But there’s a growing discrepancy between this ideal and the ground reality. Supporters of Mr. Modi often view secularism as an imposition from foreign influences. They consider it as a disguise for mistreatment of Hindus. This perspective has led to what some see as aggressive policies, impacting Indian society and raising concerns about the fair treatment of Muslims. Human Rights Watch has warned of “systematic discrimination” against “religious minorities”, particularly Muslims, and an increase in violence by BJP supporters against targeted groups.

Destroyed in 1992 by a Hindu mob, the site’s ownership was granted to Hindus by the supreme court in 2019. Ayodhya’s story fueled BJP’s rise, with opposition parties failing to challenge Modi’s majoritarianism effectively.

Modi’s Message: A New Era

Modi’s message goes beyond Hindu triumph. He envisions a new era, raising concerns about potential constitution changes. Despite dismissing speculations, Monday’s events hint at a country reshaped by Modi’s influence.

The inauguration of the Ram temple signifies more than religious milestones. It underlines political maneuvering, with the temple becoming a tool in Modi’s quest for power, rather than a simple religious symbol.
