Kenya Hotel Attack: Death Toll Rises to 21

Somali militants armed with guns and explosives attacks into dusitD2 hotel complex in Nairobi on Tuesday which lasted for hours till Wednesday morning, killed 21 people.
Reportedly 6 Kenyans, one Briton, one American and three people of African descent has died in this brutal attack. Kenya’s police chief confirmed the news. The death toll is expected to rise.
“We wish to inform that, as of this evening… six other bodies were found at the scene and one police officer succumbed very suddenly to his injuries,” said Joseph Boinnet, Inspector General to the reporters.
28 people have injured in this battle who are admitted to Kenya’s Red Cross hospital and 19 are still missing.
NBC reports that a U.S. citizen was among the dead but police didn’t disclose the identity.
Tuesday’s attack started with car bombs. The hotel attack includes bars, restaurants, offices and banks, according to the Kenya Red Cross Society.
“The quick and effective response by our elite fighting teams,” Mr. Kenyatta offered reassurances that the situation was under control.
“The security operation at Dusit complex is over, and all the terrorists eliminated,” saying this Mr Kenyatta added that, “as of this moment, we can confirm that 14 innocent lives were lost through the hands of these murderous terrorists.”
Uhuru Kenyatta, Kenyan President vowed authorities would “pursue relentlessly” those involved in the funding, planning and execution of the attack.
“Five gunmen took part in the assault, including a suicide bomber who died in the first few minutes when he detonated his device in the hotel’s foyer,” said Joseph Boinnet, the head of Kenya’s police service.
However, Kenya has been a target for al-Shabab since October 2011.
