Rapper Kanye West donated $150,000 to the family of dead security guard Jemel Roberson, who was shot by an Illinois officer near Chicago last weekend, while working at a Robbins nightclub.
West apparently donated the amount of $15k to a GoFundMe page on Friday, but the amount originally placed for $10k and the page was set up in honor of Jemel Roberson. Bart Jackson, a representative for GoFundMe, confirmed the contribution.
Jemel Roberson was was mistakenly shot and killed earlier this week, who was gunned down by police after stopping a drunken man with a gun and wanted to do whatever he could to lessen the burden on his family. Witnesses said the alleged gunman returned to the bar after security asked him and several drunken men to leave.
The incident moved West emotionally. The shooting was the latest in a series of cases that have involved cops killing black men under questionable circumstances.
Roberson’s mother Beatrice Roberson, charged more than $1 million listing the unnamed responding officer and the village of Midlothian as defendants.
“Sadly, Jemel’s life was tragically and unexpectedly cut short this morning as he tried to save others from senseless violence,” the creator of the page said.
West had not tweeted about the donation or confirmed it in any other way.
