‘Just Mercy’ Is Free To Stream: Learn About Systemic Racism

The film “Just Mercy,” 2019 civil rights legal drama, has been made available to stream for free in the US in support of the Black Lives Matter movement/ Puza Snigdha reports.

Starring Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Foxx, Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that the film is based on the life of civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson, will be available to rent for free on streaming platforms during the month of June.

  • Destin Daniel Cretton’s true-story drama is expected to help provide widespread education on systematic racism during this critical time.
  • A representative of Warner Bros have said in a statement: “Our film Just Mercy, based on the life work of civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson, is one resource we can humbly offer to those who are interested in learning more about the systemic racism that plagues our society. For the month of June, Just Mercy will be available to rent for free across digital platforms in the U.S.”
  • Originally released in December, the film tells the true story of a lawyer and social activist Bryan Stevenson’s (Michael B. Jordan) mission to free Walter McMillan (Jamie Foxx), an Alabama death row inmate wrongfully convicted of murdering a white woman.
  • The film, based on Stevenson’s 2014 book Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption, stars Michael B. Jordan as Stevenson and Jamie Foxx as McMillian.
  • The film has already earned positive reviews; “Cretton deserves credit for not shying away from showing just how rife the corruption is, with Stevenson being subjected to bigotry at practically every turn.”
