In order to show solidarity with Iranian protesters, the US Soccer Federation changed Iran’s flag on its social media platforms. But the incident bring Iran’s demands that the US be banned from the 2022 World Cup on Iranian state television.

The federation had briefly flown the Iranian flag on its official Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages. But this time it was without the Islamic Republic’s symbol. A depiction of the Group B standings, which has since been removed. It showed the Iranian flag, which is composed of three primary colors green, white, and red.

On Sunday, US Soccer told the news source that it had always intended to return to the original flag. But after changing it for a 24-hour to show “support for the women in Iran fighting for basic human rights.”

US Soccer informed news media that the modification “was a one-time graphic.” “Our website and other sites have the main flag.” On US Soccer’s social media outlets, the logo is at the moment repositioned on the flag.

US Soccer’s decision to change the flag of Iran on its social media accounts in support of Iranian demonstrators was not made in consultation with the State Department, a representative for the sporting organization said to news media.

We anticipate a competitive and peaceful game on the field. The State Department told news media that despite state-sponsored violence against women and a savage crackdown on peaceful protestors, the United States “continues to find ways to support the Iranian people.”
