International Women’s Day seeks to celebrate women’s achievements, as well as act as a catalyst for change when it comes to gender equality. The theme for 2018 International Women’s Day is “Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives”.
This year, International Women’s Day comes on the heels of unprecedented global movement for women’s rights, equality and justice. Sexual harassment, violence and discrimination against women has captured headlines and public discourse, propelled by a rising determination for change.
The day brings together global governments, women’s organisations, businesses and charities together under the banner of International Women’s Day. The day itself will be marked with talks, performances, rallies, networking events and marches. It’s been observed for over 100 years and is now celebrated around the world.
