Hypocrisy and Ignorance – What Trump has said about Coronavirus

After months of undermining its significances, President Donald Trump has tested positive for COVID-19. Kieran Green reports.

Whilst the President is reportedly recovering well, his contraction of the virus seemed almost inevitable following his refusal to wear a mask and the crowded presidential rallies throughout the country.

Following this news, we have put together some of Trump’s most controversial statements on the current pandemic, and the illness that even he has now contracted.

  1. We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China. It’s going to be just fine.” One of Trump’s earliest comments about the virus in January, before his country would become the nation with the highest number of cases globally.
  1. The pandemic is “fading away. It is going to fade away.” Trump laughably said this ahead of a rally in June, when US cases were rising up to 20,000 daily.
  1. I think wearing a face mask as I greet presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens — I don’t know, somehow I don’t see it for myself. I just, I just don’t.” The first of many ‘anti-mask’ comments made by the president, as he made his feelings on face coverings clear to the public.
  1. “There’s a theory that, in April, when it gets warm — historically, that has been able to kill the virus. So we don’t know yet; we’re not sure yet.” Unfortunately for Trump, America’s issue with the virus worsened in April, with cases rising by thousands as they entered Spring.

I think that the World Health Organization should be ashamed of themselves, because they’re like the public relations agency for China.” Trump scathingly attacked the World Health Organisation in April despite their great efforts throughout the pandemic, and the shocking US coronavirus statistics.
