'Homeland' Is Officially Ending After Season 8

Homeland is officially ending after eight seasons.
Showtime President and CEO David Nevins confirmed the news, which Claire Danes first hinted at back in April, at the Television Critics Association summer press tour Monday. According to Nevins, the decision to end the Emmy-winning show was actually made by Danes and creator Alex Gansa.
Homeland is based on the original Israeli series Prisoners of War by Gideon Raff. The series first broadcast on Channel 4 in 2012 starring Damian Lewisas Nicholas Brody, a marine held captive by terrorists in Afghanistan who was later rescued after eight years, and Danes as Carrie Mathison, a CIA agent who believed Brody may have been indoctrinated.
Fans will get a conclusive end to the story of Carrie Mathison and Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin), two beloved characters who have sacrificed their happiness and well-being to protect the country from terrorists. The drama will begin filming its 8 episode last season in January.
The farewell season will begin production early next year and is set to debut in 2019. Although details on the season are scarce, the most recent season of Homeland concluded with Carrie and her bestie Saul reuniting after the former was held captive in Russia for seven months.
Season 8 will reportedly get to “the emotional heart of things” and allow the show to start fresh, with a “fairly big time jump” from Season 7 to Season 8. The plan at the time was to set the story in Israel, but Gansa did not confirm Israel as the location.
