HBO and the BBC have renewed the fantasy drama television series “His Dark Materials” for a third and final season. Puza Snigdha reports.

The series is based on Philip Pullman’s three-part epic novel of the same name “His Dark Materials”. The series is produced by Bad Wolf in association with New Line Cinema for BBC One and HBO.

The third season will have eight episodes and the filming will begin in Cardiff, Wales next year. The second season just ended on Monday, 28th December on HBO.

The second season consisted of seven episodes and had to cut off the story due to Covid-19.

“We thank our incredible partners at the BBC and the entire Bad Wolf team, led by the indefatigable Jane Tranter, for their exceptional work on the first two seasons. We look forward to completing the trilogy with this final chapter in Lyra’s journey,” said Francesca Orsi, HBO Programming Executive Vice President.

The third season will cover the third book in Pullman’s trilogy, The Amber Spyglass. Following the book, fans are expecting scenes like elephant-like mulefa and the land of the dead.
