Hiroshima Day: Corbyn Calls for Revived peace!

7th of August marks the 77 anniversary of first atomic bombing in Hiroshima. Rallies around Britain commemorates this anniversary and warned against the disastrous use of nuclear bombs.

Jeremy Corbyn called for a peace movement to end the war in Ukraine, Yemen, and elsewhere and also to ban nuclear weapons. This movement came to address Hiroshima Day in the Eisteddfod in Wales. On the setting end of Welsh cultural festival on Saturday, Corbyn saluted the “amazing achievement of Wales. Wales being the first to be declared as the nuclear-free zone in 40 years ago and has promised “the vision of peace will always be stronger and more powerful than the voices of war”.

Corbyn claimed that the conflicts are the result of fueled by the Western powers from “the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq to the wars in Syria, Libya, and Yemen”. And these countries have been torn by “poverty, destitution, terrorism and hunger”, and also Russia’s invasion of Ukraine had only led to more loss of life and new instabilities. Mr. Corbyn standing in solidarity with the Hiroshima and Nagasaki victims which marks the 77th anniversary of atomic bombing by US.

Here are some of the facts about Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing by the US, which was the first nuclear attack the world had witnessed-

  1. US warned the civilians before bombing– Warning was given by US dropped fliers before bombing the cities with nuclear weapon.
  2. Flame of peace to end nuclear threat– Since 1964 a flame of peace has been burning in Hiroshima and it will extinguish when threat of nuclear attack has completely been eliminated from the face of earth.
  3. Duck and Cover saved Nagasaki Policemen– No policemen died in Nagasaki’s atomic blast. The policeman who survived Hiroshima episode taught Nagasaki police about the duck and cover technique to save them from the attacks.
  4. The First thing to bloom after explosion– The Oleander flower was the first thing to bloom after the atomic blast in 1945.
  5. Little Man and Fat Man were different– Little Man and Fat Man were the codename of the bombs for the attack and ‘Little Man’ was enriched with Uranium-235 and ‘Fat Man’ on Plutonium-239.
