Luis Suarez Hat-trick: Barcelona Defeated Real Madrid 5-1 in El Clasico

Barcelona pulled off a outstanding 5-1 victory from Real Madrid with Luis Suarez’s hat-trick, in the first El Clasico in 11 years without both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi which brings out a humiliation for Real and their beleaguered head coach Julen Lopetegui.
The victory takes defending champion Barca a point clear at the top in La Liga, with Real trailing in ninth, seven points behind and with its coach Julen Lopetegui under increased pressure after a sorry recent run.
The irrepressible Suarez led Barca, who were rampant even without Lionel Messi and capitalised on their rivals’ failings to move back to the top of La Liga.
Considering the rivalry and the hostilities that these two teams have enjoyed over the years, Real desperately needs a confidence-boosting victory to climb La Liga but may struggle at Barça, as the Catalans can retain their dominance at the top of the table should they topple Los Blancos on Sunday.
Philippe Coutinho opened the scoring for the champions and Suarez doubled their advantage in a devastating first-half showing, with Marcelo’s response shortly after the restart merely a small bump in the road.
Luka Modric hit the post shortly after that, an inch more inside it probably would have levelled the scores, and Los Blancos started to gain a hold on the game.
Marcelo’s goal during a flurry of Madrid pressure at the start of the second period briefly raised hopes of a comeback before a Suarez double and Arturo Vidal header sealed the game as the visitors fell apart.
Without Messi due to his arm fracture, Barca’s win was never really in doubt. Real, without Cristiano Ronaldo following his move to Juventus in the summer, continued to look nothing like its usual self.
“Last year people were saying he didn’t score enough,” said Barca coach Ernesto Valverde. “But I know the work he puts in and he gets the rewards that he deserves.”
