Swedish activist Greta Thunberg warns on Friday that the world is still facing climate risk and not following the steps to prevent catastrophic warming even after five years from the Paris Agreement on climate change. Puza Snigdha reports.
Greta Thunberg is globally well known for launching the global Fridays for Future youth climate movement. The initiative was taken on Dec. 12, 2015, by 196 countries but global leaders have failed to stick to their plans and promises.
The deal was to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius and close to 1.5 degrees as possible.
The 17-year-old activist took Twitter on 10th December, just two days earlier of Paris climate agreement’s fifth anniversary, where she shared a 3-minute video and urged her 10.5 million followers to #FightFor1point5.
“The gap between what we need to do and what is actually being done is widening by the minute. We are still speeding in the wrong direction,” said Thunberg.
Thunberg mentions in the video that this year have been the hottest years ever recorded.
The video ends with the note that says, the solution was in making people aware of the extent of the climate crisis. The real hope comes from the people.
