Former President Jacques Chirac Dies at 86

The previous president that is french Chirac, a self-styled affable rogue that has one of the longest political careers in Europe, has died aged 86.
For quite a while he had suffered from loss of memory reported to be associated with a type of Alzheimer’s disease or even the stroke that is minor he previously whilst in office.
Chirac, who had been head of state from 1995 to 2007, boasted one of the longest continuous political careers in Europe – twice president, twice minister that is prime 18 years as mayor of Paris.
Although his time as president was marked by inaction and political stagnation, and despite having left France in the same way divided and struggling with mounting debt, inequalities and unemployment while he had found it, his debonair persona meant that in retirement he was embraced as you of France’s favorite politicians.
Chirac may be remembered internationally for leading France’s strong opposition to the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, when approval ratings for his anti-war stance in France soared to 90%.
“War is often a last resort. It is always proof of failure. It is usually the worst of solutions, given that it brings death and misery,” he said per week before the US-led coalition forces invaded Iraq.
One of Chirac’s greatest gestures at home was to reconcile the country having its history by acknowledging that France all together was in charge of the roundup of some 76,000 Jews provided for Nazi death camps throughout the second world war.
Chirac should be remembered above all as a master when you look at the creative art of political seduction.
Politically he had been referred to as “weathervane”, for his ability to shift as he was suited by it.
