British conductor Anthony Inglis has had the privilege of becoming one of the most well known conductors in the world and has performed with orchestras and musicians from all over the world in many of the most emblematic concert halls. Soon he will be boarding the Celebrity Silhouette cruise ship and taking part in a performing arts festival.
At the early age of 6, Anthony Inglis conducted for the very first time and from that moment on he knew that conducting was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. His parents were always very supportive and made sure he got the education and training he needed to fulfil his ambitions.
Having conducted different orchestras at the Royal Albert Hall over 250 times, Anthony Inglis is the conductor to have featured the most at the London venue. “It’s a very special place, it’s my second home. There’s an atmosphere there, I haven’t come across anything like it anywhere else”.
Since breaking into the world of conducting, Anthony Inglis has had a very varied career and has had a go at almost everything. He conducted The Scorpions and the London Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall for Mikhael Gorbachev’s 80th birthday, he has performed for the Queen at Buckingham Palace, he conducted the 25th anniversary performance of Phantom of the Opera and has been conducting Katherine Jenkins for the past 15 years.
Anthony Inglis will soon be embarking on his latest event alongside a long list of well known artists. He will be joining a 7-day festival of performing arts aboard the cruise ship the Celebrity Silhouette.
This is not a first for Inglis. He has been conducting his orchestra on cruises gliding across the Atlantic for the past 10 years. “I am familiar with the difficulties and the joys of cruising and performing on board. The joys are many – the difficulties are only if there is a little bit of movement”.
However, the cruise he will be performing on next will offer quite a different and special experience to those on board. “There’s been classical cruises before but there’s never been a cruise with this amount of stars on board, I don’t think”.
Performing is what Anthony Inglis is looking forward to the most. “I’m in a fortunate position of my hobby being my job”. He is also looking forward to catching up with Julian Lloyd Webber, who he was a student with and has worked with since, and conducting Katherine Jenkins who will be taking to the cruise only weeks after giving birth.
The conductor would describe the cruise as “a venture in music and art”. People on board can expect “a really good time with some of their favourite artists”.
It would be difficult to pick out the highlights of Anthony Inglis because he has had so many successes in all kinds of events. Yet there is still one thing he hasn’t had the opportunity to do yet but that he would feel very honoured to do. “My one ambition would be to one day conduct what I think is, in my opinion, the greatest orchestra in the world, and that is the Vienna Philharmonic. They have a sound that is unique”.
Anthony Inglis will be taking to the open seas aboard the Celebrity Silhouette from the 19 until 26 May 2018.
