Drummer Nick Mason Forms New Act to Play Pink Floyd’s Early Music

Pink Floyd’s c0-founder and drummer Nick Mason has formed a new project named ‘Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets’ to play his legendary rock band’s earliest tunes.
This new group features former Pink Floyd and David Gilmour bassist Guy Pratt, The Blockheads guitarist Lee Harris, Spandau Ballet’s Gary Kemp, and composer Dom Beken, a collaborator of late-Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright.
“We’re not a tribute band,” Mason told Uncut last week. “It’s not important to play the songs exactly as they were, but to capture the spirit”.
For the London shows in May, the four-piece group’s set included “Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun,” “See Emily Play,” “Arnold Layne,” “One Of These Days” and “Astronomy Domine.”
“This is a unique opportunity to experience Pink Floyd’s celebrated and significant early body of work played live including songs from albums The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn and A Saucerful Of Secrets.” in a join statement said Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets.
Mason’s group will perform four British club gigs, with the band playing Dingwall’s in London on May 20th, and a three-night stand at the Half Moon in Putney. So far, no North American dates have been announced.
“Very few bands are as culturally important as Pink Floyd. They are one of the best selling music artists of all time and Nick Mason is a founder and the only constant member of the band performing on all of their albums as well as all of their live shows”, said the new super-group. This will be Nick Mason’s first live musical outing since Pink Floyd played at the 2005 Live 8 concert in London”.
