The deadly Coronavirus cases are increasing after five weeks of declining cases, the World Health Organization (WHO) said recently in their weekly report. Another sub-variant is emerging these days.

WHO has also warned about the pandemic that it is far from over, as the number of daily cases is again on the rise.  A fresh wave of cases linked to BA.2, a fast-spreading sub-variant of the Omicron variant, has emerged in many European nations.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a press briefing,

‘Globally increasing cases despite reduced testing means the cases we are seeing are just the tip of the iceberg.’

He added, ‘Continued local outbreaks and surges are to be expected, particularly in areas where measures to prevent transmission have been lifted.’

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) report on thousands of people randomly across the UK, 2.6 million people would have tested positive for the virus ending the first week of March or roughly one in every seventeen people.

The infection rates among elderly people are increasing. With 2.9 percent of those over the age of 70 being tested positive in England. As per the estimation, it is the highest level since mid-January of this year.

According to experts, countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom may experience another wave as the BA.2 variant of Covid-19 spreads rapidly around the world.

Moreover, China has increased lockdowns in major cities as they can’t maintain the zero-Covid approach. As of 20 March 2022, the worldwide active Covid cases have nearly crossed four million.
