Over 2 million Covid-19 Vaccine doses arrived from India to Bangladesh Yesterday. Anika Khan reports.
Bangladesh received 2 million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Vaccine as a form of a gift from the Indian Government. The vaccine has boosted the Covid-19 Vaccination campaign planting hopes to bring the Pandemic under control.
Here is everything you need to know:
- The 2 million Vaccines are scheduled to roll out the mass vaccination Programme from the first week of February. This goodwill gesture will help to cement the strong relationship between the two countries.
- Bangladesh has previously purchased 30 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine from the Serum Institute of India (SII). The first shipment of these shots is expected to arrive in Bangladesh on 25 January.
- PM Hasina thanked Narendra Mondi for the token of gift yesterday. In a virtual event, she said, ” “I’m thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sending the vaccine as a gift.”
- Officials in change have prepared a list of people who will be getting the first dose based on priority. 15 million people will be inoculated across 300 centers across the capital of Dhaka.
- Bangladesh has reached over 7966 Covid-19 deaths with over 5,30,000 existing covid patients. It is one of the few countries that is about to begin its vaccination programs to tackle Coronavirus.
