The girl with the golden voice has been in decline for a number of years now, and although “Liberation“ does have some memorable moments, it still feels a little like Aguilera is treading water. All the power and range in the world is pretty much a wasted gift if the songs themselves aren’t up to the job, and this is where “Liberation“ falls down. Famed for songs such as “Fighter“ and “Hurt“, there just isn’t anything that dynamic on offer. For one of the world’s truly great singers, this has to rate as mostly forgettable without actually being bad. Liberation fails to set Aguilera free.
