After winning multiple awards for its first season, we finally have cast updates and  details about the plot for the new ‘Big Little Lies’ season.
Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley and Zoë Kravitz have officially signed on to reprise their roles in season 2 of the HBO series. They will join returning stars and executive producers Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, as well as Meryl Streep. The three-time Oscar winner, who will play Perry’s mother, will arrive in Monterey seeking answers about her son’s mysterious death and concerned about her two grandsons.
In the second season, while processing Perry’s sudden death, Jane is trying to build a new life for herself and Ziggy. Renata is now faced with new challenges in her marriage, while Bonnie struggles with Perry’s death and is forced to face demons in her past.
Season 2 is set to be subversive and dark and, according to HBO, “will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting”. The television network further added, “Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode… the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.”
Season 1 was based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty, with the second season based on a new story by the author. David E. Kelley, who wrote and executive produced Season 1, will return in the same role for Season 1.
The production of ‘Big Little Lies’ will begin in March 2018 and the second season will premiere sometime in 2019.
