BBC Pay Gap not "A Result of Gender Bias", Says Report

According to a report conducted by PwC for the BBC on the topic of their pay scales, there is no evidence pointing towards the difference in pay being “a result of gender bias”.

The BBC commissioned a thorough analysis on their pay system after protests about the significant pay gap at the broadcasting company  erupted when the salaries of the top paid presenters were released.

The publishing of salaries brought to light the issue of unequal pay for women and men working at the television institution when figures showed that a high percentage of the highest earning employees were male and they were paid considerably more than their female counterparts.

“Our analysis has shown that, where pay differences have been identified amongst employees in similar roles, these are typically driven by material and justifiable factors unrelated to gender”, says the report conducted by PwC. “We have not seen anything in our work which leads us to believe this is as a result of gender bias in the setting of pay”.

Many women working at the BBC have voiced their concerns since the release of the list of salaries and have called for a public apology and for the situation to be amended.

The BBC’s China Editor Carrie Gracie recently resigned from her post after rejecting a £45,000 pay rise. She stated that the gender pay gap was completely unacceptable and that men and women should be paid the same for doing the same work.

Despite the BBC’s efforts to correct the situation the debate is on going and workers are clearly still not happy.
