Apprenticeships in Uk are at Risk

Unions and industrial heads have warned that the industry for skilled workers in the UK is in danger. This includes industries that represent IT, aerospace, automotive, chemicals, and defense.

It has been reported that the government apprenticeship training scheme of over £3 billion collected from the companies is sitting idle at the Treasury.

The government needs to introduce emergency measures to save these apprenticeships in order to recover from the crisis that the pandemic created for the nation.

The number of apprenticeships has fallen by 79 percent in the lockdown, compared to last year. Manufacturers and businesses have hold of apprenticeship programs due to the ongoing pandemic. Britain now fears that this might lead to a ‘lost generation’ of skilled workers.

There has been a constant call for unions and employees to retain skilled workers and the government to safeguard the skills of young people in these sectors.

The general secretary of Trades Union Congress Frances O’ Grady has warned about the economic challenge in the months ahead. He urges the government to listen to these calls and act urgently to support apprenticeship programs.

Young workers are at the most risk. The manufacturing sectors in the UK need young energetic people who can fill up empty places by the employees who are leaving for COVID.

Government authorities need to use the billions of dollars sitting in the treasury to good use for training the young workforce whose lives have been disrupted by the Pandemic.
