Author: Bhavani Iyer
Urbish, son of a fisherman who lives poor goes to Calcutta to pursue his career. Urbish meets Debottom son of a wealthy zamindar. Though their life differs, they have one thing in common, writing. Urbish is ready to sacrifice himself for writing, whereas Debottom is ready to kill anyone to reach fame. Who wins at the end in the race of success?
Amongst other things that make this book such a great read, the foremost is Iyer’s ability to beautifully weave the culture of the place (Bengal) into her narration. The vivid descriptions of the Sundarbans, its flora and fauna, the culture of its people, the city of Kolkata and the oral history of its people makes the writing stand out.
The author’s inexhaustible knowledge of literature, both classic and contemporary, be it in English or Latin or Bengali, also finds itself lending a distinct flavour to this book. Out in April, as a first book published by this author, already makes a huge success in Amazon India.
