All about Taylor Hawkins 1st & 2nd Tribute Concert

Over the weekend, the first of two tribute concerts for late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins was held on the 3rd September Saturday night. The Foo Fighters played a six-hour show at Wembley Stadium in England, their first performance since drummer Taylor Hawkins passed away in March. The band was joined by some of the best musicians working today.

Hawkins’ favorite musicians, including Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen, Liam Gallagher, Travis Barker, and AC/Brian DC’s Johnson, were all brought out for the event by the Foo Fighters.

Grohl’s opening remarks made it obvious that the event would pay tribute to Taylor Hawkins’ legacy in more ways than one: “A tremendous damn night for a gigantic god damn person.” Later, Dave Chappelle referred to Hawkins as “a legend of a man” and recalled meeting him and his son Shane.

The evening’s musical performances began with two classic Oasis songs performed by Liam Gallagher and the Foo Fighters, and a moving videotape was given by Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Grohl’s incredible performance, which lasted almost six hours overall and featured a setlist of 50 songs, left a profound lasting impression on Hawkins and the Foo Fighters as a whole.
