AKMU has just revealed that the title track of their latest song ‘NAKKA’, was inspired by the popular 2017 musical film The Greatest Showman.
Here is everything you need to know:
- The sibling duo shared how their love for the film had influenced the track’s songwriting process, in a recent online press conference. ‘Next Episode’ was largely written by Lee Chan-hyuk and additional production by Millennium, Peejay, and more.
- For the first time since its 2012 debut, AKMU has put out a collaboration album featuring some of the most attention-grabbing singers in the music scene: IU, Lee Sun-hee, Zion. T, Beenzino, Crush, Sam Kim and Choi Jung-hoon of indie rock band Jannabi.
- “The song is about promising to always be at the side of someone who is going through a hard time,” Lee Su-Hyun shared, as translated by Soompi “I really loved The Greatest Showman and I took my brother to see it. He said that he’d gotten inspiration from a scene.”
- AKMU also shared that they brought IU onboard to make the song “more approachable” to the general listening audience. Su-Hyun mentioned, “There were a lot of fans who had wanted us to work together, and we felt that this was the right time, so we reached out to her and she readily agreed”.
- The lead single “NAKKA” means “falling down” in Korean. The two band members revealed they decided to ask IU to team up for the project, as she was, they thought, the best one to relay the song’s message to the public.
- ‘Next Episode’ is the latest project from the pair. It features collaborations from many notable South Korean artists, including Zion.T, Beenzino, Crush, and Sam Kim. Music videos for each song are set to be released by the YG Entertainment agency which they confirmed previously.
