When The Curtain Falls

Author: Carrie Hope Fletcher
Successful West End actress Olive and Oscar, an actor who gained his fame for being on a TV soap, meet when they are cast as star-crossed lovers in a new production of When The Curtain Falls. The first production of the play had a home in the same theatre but was cancelled when tragedy struck.
Despite their differences and against all the odds against them, Olive and Oscar start falling in love. However, it isn’t all rainbows and roses for the couple as people and circumstances will conspire to keep them apart.
In the same theatre in the 1950s, Fawn is the star in the very first production of When The Curtain Falls. When she took on the part little did she know that Hamish, the producer, would seek to control her. And little did she expect to find and fall in love with Walter, the stage door manager.
In this enchanting novel, Carrie Fletcher weaves a tale of romance, tragedy and magic. Shifting from one story’s timeline to the other, the novel is built in a way that keeps the tension and will make the reader want to turn the page. Each character has their own unique personality and function in the story which only contributes to the richness of the narrative.
With wonderful descriptions, and by pulling from the myth that some theatres have ghosts, Carrie brings to life a wonderful tale about love in the face of adversity and the everlasting magic that is brought to life and strengthened on the stages of theatres all over the world every day.
When The Curtain Calls is a thoroughly enjoyable and captivating novel infused with mystery and feeling that will have you hooked from beginning to end and that will pull at your heartstrings.
If you are in Birmingham and would like to learn more about the book and to have a chance to meet the author, Carrie will be hosting a Q+A and book signing event at the Birmingham Glee Club on 20 August. You can find more information about the event here.
