Arab electronic hip-hop band 47Soul will be releasing their debut album Balfron Promise on the 4 Feb and will start a short UK tour in London on the same day to celebrate. They will perform live at nine events across the UK.
The main theme of their debut album is the similarities between war-torn countries that seem so far away and the constant cultural and class wars happening on our door step. Lyrics to their songs revolve around class oppression and the big and powerful bullying the normal people of our society.
Inspiration for the album came from their own personal experiences. They were living in Balfron Tower in London when the landlords started evicting their tenants and opening their apartments up for music video recordings after the tower was bought by a luxury property developer.
The familiar situation resonated with the Jordanian and Palestinian members of the band as they realised it was similar to the situations back home.
47Soul’s sound is unique. They have invented their own genre, called Shamstep, which is a blend of hip-hop and pop lyrics with Arab root music and rock undertones.
You can find more information about 47Soul and their upcoming debut album and live gigs on their website.
