Xuexi Qiangguo, which translates to “Study powerful country,” is now the most downloaded item on Apple’s domestic App Store. This App has surpassed the demand of other popular social media apps such as WeChat and TikTok.
This app produced by the Chinese government with a little help from the Chinese Communist Party and had designed to teach Chinese people the President Xi Jinping political doctrine.
The app’s name “Study (Xi) Strong Country”, is a pun – Xuexi being the word for “study” but also containing the president’s name, suggesting users are to “study Xi”. The app aims at shaping the nation’s minds under Xi Jinping’s presidency.
Released by the party’s publicity department in January, Xuexi Qiangguo mostly serves as a news aggregation platform for articles, short video clips and documentaries about President Xi Jinping’s political philosophy.
Xuexi Qiangguo requires users to register with their mobile numbers and real names. “Study points” are earned by users who log on the app, read articles, comment daily and participate in multiple-choice tests about the party’s policies.
